“In sonship or adoption, the sinner stands before God as a stranger and is made a child of His.”
One of the truths of God that is in the book of Romans is that God wants to make you one of His sons. This is a part of God saving us. “The sinner is in danger of destruction but in salvation, God has rescued him from that danger.”
Think of it this way; you are in a valley that a river runs through. A dam holds the river back from its course. Now that dam has been broken. The valley is flooding, and you are about to die by going under the water. Before that can happen, you are rescued and put on a hill so that you are safe. You have are saved.
God has not only put you in a safe place but in His grace has reconciled you to Himself and made you one of his children. Think of that, if you have been saved and you are a child of God. When God put us in a safe place and made us one of His children he also put His Spirit in us.
(Romans 8:9) “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.”
If you are saved, you have the Holy Spirit dwelling in you. Then He put the Holy Spirit in the ones that he has saved. All men that are saved have two things in common. They have faith in Christ, and they have the Holy Spirit of God in them. God will not save anyone that does not have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
When the Bible talks about being saved it is talking about God by his Spirit making you righteous so that His spirit can dwell in you. You see that you are made righteous when you have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 10:10) “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.”
When God put his Spirit in you, you become one of His children.
(Romans 8:14) “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
If you are saved, and the Spirit of God dwells in you, you are led by His Spirit and you are a child of God.
The Spirit that the saved have in them is not the spirit of bondage to fear. That is the spirit the lost have in them, but we have the Spirit of adoption so we can cry “Abba, Father”.
(Romans 8:15) “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”
You ought to be able to sing this song:
“Once I was clothed in the rags of my sin
Wretched and poor
Lost and lonely within
But with wondrous compassion
The King of all kings
In pity and love
Took me under his wings
Oh yes, oh yes
I’m a child of the King
His royal blood
Now flows in my veins
And I, who was wretched and poor, now can sing
Praise God, Praise God
I’m a child of the King.”
There is more to say about being a child of God, but for now, I can say:
“Praise God, Praise God,
I’m a child of the King.”
