George Mueller (27 September 1805 – 10 March 1898) _“He cared for 10,024 orphans during his lifetime, and provided educational opportunities for the orphans to the point that he was even accused by some of raising the poor above their natural station in British[1] life. He established 117 schools which offered Christian education to more than 120,000.” And he did these things without asking men for money but only through prayer.
At the end of his life, Mueller went into much of the world with this message: “God is real and he can be trusted”. He proved it by doing great work with all these orphans in his lifetime by not asking for money from anyone but only praying for it.
When I look at George Mueller I feel that I have come so far short of what I could have been if my faith was greater. Looking at his life causes me to want to pray more and trust God more.
I know that God called George Mueller to an unusual way of working, but is it? Is it not the way that the Bible says that we are to do God’s work? Mueller took God at his word, (Matthew 6:33) “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” In short, this is what George Mueller did. This is the way we ought to live. We ought to seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness by seeking to do the will of God and letting Him worry about our needs.
Now if you try this, you need to be sure that you are doing God’s will, not doing your own will, for there is no promise that God will meet your needs in that case.
It was not easy for Mueller in the early years. It was not uncommon for the mealtime to come and there be no food for the children. The children would be at the table praying. There would be a knock at the door and there would be someone at the door with food who said that God had told him to give it to them.
George Mueller’s message is one we need to hear: “GOD IS REAL AND CAN BE TRUSTED”.
We know that there are lots of works that God wants to do only if his people would “…live like they believe it!”
